Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is the National Mission for Financial Inclusion. Its primary objective is to ensure access to financial services for every household in the country.

Core Benefits of a PMJDY Account:

  • Zero Minimum Balance: There is no requirement to maintain a minimum balance in a Jan Dhan account.
  • Free RuPay Debit Card: Account holders receive a free RuPay debit card for ATM and digital transactions.
  • Accident Insurance: The issued RuPay card comes with an inbuilt free accidental insurance cover of ₹2 Lakhs.
  • Overdraft Facility: After 6 months of satisfactory account operation, an overdraft (OD) facility of up to ₹10,000 is available (usually restricted to one account per household, preferably for the lady of the house).

Loan & Credit Services

The government provides various collateral-free loan schemes to help citizens start or expand their small businesses.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY)

Under the Mudra scheme, credit is provided to small businesses, shopkeepers, and micro-enterprises across three distinct categories:

  1. Shishu: Loans up to ₹50,000.
  2. Kishore: Loans from ₹50,001 up to ₹5,00,000.
  3. Tarun: Loans from ₹5,00,001 up to ₹10,00,000.

JanSamarth Portal

Citizens no longer need to visit multiple banks to apply for Education, Agriculture, Business, or Livelihood loans. The government has launched the centralized JanSamarth Portal. Here, you can check your eligibility across 12+ government-sponsored credit schemes (such as PMEGP, Mudra, Stand-Up India) and apply online from a single unified dashboard.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

  • AEPS Transaction Failed but Money Deducted: If a server error occurs during biometric authentication and money is deducted from your account without dispensing cash, do not panic. As per NPCI guidelines, this amount is automatically refunded (auto-reversed) to your bank account within 3 to 5 working days. If it is not refunded, you must visit your home bank branch and file a ‘Chargeback Complaint’.
  • Jan Suraksha Premium Auto-Deducted Unexpectedly: Every year, typically at the end of May, the premiums for PMJJBY (₹436) and PMSBY (₹20) are automatically deducted from enrolled accounts. This is a standard renewal process, not fraud. If you wish to opt out, you must submit a written cancellation request to your bank branch.
  • Aadhaar Not Seeded for Subsidies (DBT): Simply providing your Aadhaar copy to the bank is not enough to receive government subsidies (like PM-KISAN) or perform AEPS. You must explicitly fill out a mandate form for “Aadhaar NPCI Mapping / DBT Enablement” at your branch.
